重陽節剛剛過去，路邊的銀杏葉也已經出現了最美的樣子，北京這幾天的天氣也特別給力，非常適合登高賞紅葉，或者出門逛逛，

如果你在學校或職場默默打拼，可以重溫一下前總統林肯當年說過的那句話：“ I will prepare myself and my chance will come”. 這句話尤其對在底層打拼的年輕人有幫助，至少對當年的我而言是這樣。

但有時候我們每個人都很固執和偏執，覺得自己是對的，這個時候要想想愛因斯坦的那句話：what got us into trouble is not what we don’t know； it is what we know for sure that just ain’t so. 看到“一根筋”的代價之後，我們或許更應該欣賞那句古訓：兼聽則明，偏聽則暗。做人就怕剛愎自用，you can never be too sure. 換句話說，never say never. 永遠要有一個open mind來看待身邊的人和事。

其實說到變得更聰明和積攢人生智慧，《偉大的蓋茨比》給了我們很好的啟發：the test of a first rate of intelligence is to have two opposed ideas in mind yet still be able to function. 不同觀點的衝撞才會產生火花，別人的批評可以使自己的觀點更全面更客觀。尤其在國際化的時代，中西交融，兩種語言、思維和文化，如何做到相容幷蓄“have two opposed ideas”談何容易。

還有太多了。很多西方政客的演講裡也有不錯的名句，只不過政治很多是作秀，只是嘴上說說而已，在西方好口才是競選成功的必要條件。比如里根曾說“people say I am a great communicator. I was not a great communicator but I communicated great things. It’s not the word I use that made a difference it’s the content”。其實這對學英語的人來說尤其值得借鑑：學英語也好、說話也好，第一要務是言之有物。然後才是語音語調、形式、表達。
