講述一年級的小女孩朱莉對新來的小鄰居小男生布萊斯一見鍾情,一路纏著到了初中,讓布萊斯唯恐避之不及。在布萊斯看來朱莉總是做著些奇怪的事情,倒是布萊斯的外公對朱莉讚許有加,隨著一件件小故事的發展,朱莉感覺對布萊斯的認識與一開始的印象漸行漸遠,愛情漸入低谷,而布萊斯卻逐漸發現自己對朱莉越來越關注。
在電影的最後布萊斯到朱莉家門前的庭院挖了個洞,想重新給她種一棵梧桐樹,朱莉也原諒了布萊斯之前的所作所為。
那一棵梧桐樹成為了永恆的希望。
