rather than後面加do或者doing都可以。具體的使用情形分為兩種：
1、跟情態動詞would,should,will等連用構成固定搭配,有時rather than可以分開,意為“寧可”、“與其……倒不如”.此時,"rather than+ do sth".
rather than在不跟情態動詞(would, will)等連用時，僅僅表示否定，譯為“而不是”。這種用法的rather than叫做準並列連詞，在語義上相當於and not。但是，必須注意，它往往連線詞性相同的詞項。
2、作準並列連詞,相等於and not,意義為：是...,而不是...:可以+doing 或 to do.
如：What will happen if we make it rather than buy it?I prefer to call him rather than (to) write a letter. （第二個不定式的to可省略）I prefer calling him ranther than writing a letter.
