Fan Jinshi, female, born in 1938, from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. After graduating from Peking University in 1963, he has been rooted in the Gobi Desert for more than 40 years and devoted himself to the archaeological research of Dunhuang Grottoes. He has made outstanding contributions to the protection and utilization of Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, a precious cultural resource for mankind. He is known as "Daughter of Dunhuang" ".
She proposed 13 cultural relics protection projects such as the "Desertification Project of Mogao Grottoes", and created a new set of materials, techniques and technologies for grouting the cracks of the sandy gravel cave cliffs and weathering and strengthening of the weathered cliff faces to protect the cultural relics of the Mogao Grottoes. The environment has been improved, and the disease and damage of the body have been contained.
She drew up a blueprint for the protection and utilization of Dunhuang cultural relics in the new century, and for the first time proposed and implemented the concept of using computer technology for the permanent protection and utilization of Dunhuang murals and colored sculptures.
She used the method of archeological typology to complete the periodization of the Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes in the Northern Dynasties, Sui Dynasty and the early Tang Dynasty, and became the recognized achievement of Dunhuang Grottoes in the academic circles.
She actively carried out international cooperation in the field of cultural relics protection and successfully solved the problems related to the research and protection of Dunhuang Grottoes.
