英文裡常常一個詞的概念會用多個詞來表示其中的細微差異。
比如，一個簡單的“笑”的概念，英語中就有14種笑；
英語中表達笑的詞彙相當豐富，有不少動詞本身就是含；
1.Smile微笑；Smile是微笑，也是最常用的笑，它常給人留下美；
2.Laugh笑；Laugh常表示出聲的笑，其程度要大於smile；
3.Giggle格格地笑；傻笑Iheardthe；
4.Grin露齒而笑Shewasgrinning；
5.Chuckle含笑，輕聲笑Hewaschuc；
不像中文，我們表達笑的詞，在字面上很接近，如大笑，狂笑，苦笑......所以很好理解和記憶，而英文的話，就要放在句子和情境中理解會更深刻。
1.輕聲的哭泣：
weep 無聲地流淚；
sob 嗚咽、抽泣；
whimper 啜泣、嗚咽；
lament 慟哭哀悼；
mewl 低聲啜泣；
snivel 哭訴、抽鼻子哭；
whine 哀鳴、發出嗚嗚聲；
2. 大聲的哭泣：
squall 嚎啕大哭；
wail 哀嚎慟哭流涕；
yowl 大哭大叫；
blubber 放聲大哭、又哭又鬧
1.be in tears 含淚，淚流滿面例：
Most of us were in tears by the time he’d finished his story.
他講完故事時，我們大多數人都已淚流滿面。
2. have tears in one’s eyes 眼裡含著淚水
例： Jane turned to me with tears in her eyes, and Begged me to help her.簡眼裡含著淚水轉我, 懇求我幫幫她。
3. burst into tears 放聲大哭，突然哭起來
例： Laura burst into tears and ran out of the room.勞拉突然哭了起來，然後從房子裡跑了出去。
4. tears roll/run down one’s cheeks 淚水順著臉頰淌下來
例： He stood silently, tears rolling down his cheeks, while the music played.音樂聲響起時,他靜靜地站著，淚水順著臉頰淌下來。
5. fight back tears 抑制住淚水
例： Bill fought back his tears and tried to comfort Sarah’s mother.比爾抑制住淚水，並試圖安慰桑拉的母親。
6. bring tears to somebody’s eyes (因傷感而)流淚。
例： The old song always brought tears to my eyes.那首老歌總是讓我傷感得流淚。
7. be close to tears/be on the verge of tears快要哭了
例： Her hands were shaking. She was on the verge of tears but Paul didn’t realize that.她的手在顫抖，她快要哭出來了，但保羅一點也沒有意識到這一切。
8. reduce somebody to tears 使某人不禁流淚
例： He nagged and complained, and reduced Louise to tears.他嘮嘮叨叨，不停地抱怨，使路易斯不禁流淚。
