一般by the time 後面加一般過去式，而主句加現在完成時

by the time有兩個意思:

一:by the time可以翻譯為:這時候,在此時.相當於at the/that time.

eg:By the time he had lost contact with the Party.這時他已和黨失去聯絡。

eg:By the time we had settled in the third bus.這時我們已在第3輛大汽車裡坐好。

二:by the time,意為:在....之前已經....

by+時間名詞。意為：“到…時（已發生某事），此時謂語多用完成時；最晚、不遲於…，在…之前”。如：by now/then/this time/next Friday/the end of/three o`clock等。

分以下三種情況使用：

1、 如果從句中的謂語動詞是一般過去時，那麼主句中的謂語動詞通常用過去完成時，表示“截止到從句動作發生時，主句動作已經完成，即過去的過去”。

2、如果從句中的謂語動詞為一般現在時/或現在完成時（表示將來），那麼主句中的謂語動詞常為將來完成時，表示“截止到將來某一時間為止，主句動作將已經完成”。

3、如果主句動作不強調已經完成，只是說明某個時候的狀況，（主句是be的系表形式或者是表示像know, find, believe等表示認知的持續性動詞，則往往用一般時態，不用完成時態。）此時主句不用完成時，而應根據實際需要選用適當的時態，此時by the time相當於when。
