Jewel是美國創作歌手、吉他手、演員和詩人。六歲時，她就開始歌唱生涯，經常跟隨父母在所居住的愛斯基摩村落裡演出，並倍受當地村民喜愛。後來她考上了密歇根州的Interlochen美術學院。

在學院的學習過程中她還參與了戲劇表演，在學期末的會演節目《Spoon River Anthology》中擔任主演。畢業後她在聖地亞哥找到了工作，但是她逐漸難以忍受這種朝九晚五的工作方式，於是她決定把自己的主要精力放在音樂上。
