in the end放在句首或句末，表示“經過許多變化、困難或捉摸不定的情況之後，某事才發生”，有時可與finally互相換用，其反義詞是in the beginning，但in the end不能置於動詞前。如：

2、He tried several times，and in the end he succeeded. 他嘗試過多次，最後成功了。
經過周折,等待,努力出現了期待的結果. 與將來時連用，而at last和finally則不能表達這一含義。如：
1、I’m sure he’ll succeed in the end. 我肯定他最終會成功。
2、I hope that everything will turn out all right in the end. 我希望一切最終都會順利。
