動詞分為“主動詞”和“助動詞”兩種。而主動詞又分為六種詞形變化(以use為例):一般現在時(use),第三人稱單數(uses),過去時(used),分詞（-ed分詞），進行體(using)以及不定式(to use).
1.第一人稱，第二人稱以及第三人稱複數用在一般現在時（I，we,you，they) e.g I/ We/You/ They use this book to read.我/我們/你（你們）/他們用這本書來閱讀。
2.第三人稱單數（He/ She/ It) e.g He/ She/ It uses this ball to play . 他/她/它玩這個球
3.過去時(適合用於任何人稱）e.g I/ We/You/ They /He/ She/ It used the ball to play last afternoon. 我/我們/你（你們）/他們/他/她/它昨天下午玩了這個球。
4.分詞（-ed分詞）用在完成體（現在/完成體）：have/has/had+-ed分詞 e.g I have used up this bottle of red ink. 我已經用完這瓶紅鋼筆水。
5.進行體(am/are/is/was/were+動詞ing，其中was是am/is的過去式；were為are的過去式)以am為例：I am using this pen to write letter now. 我正用這支筆寫信。
6.不定式 (to use)：I am going to use the money to buy a car. 我打算用這筆錢來買車。
