such…that…與so…that…都可以用來引導結果狀語從句，意為“如此…以致…”。

區別有以下幾點：

（1）such是形容詞，它所修飾的名詞可以是可數名詞，也可以是不可數名詞；名詞前面可以帶形容詞，也可以不帶。如果其後是單數可數名詞，前面需加不定冠詞a或an。因此，such…that…的句型結構可分為以下三種：

①such+a（n）（+adj.）+單數可數名詞+that從句。如：

She is such a good teacher that all of us love and respect her.她是一位很好的老師，我們都敬愛她。

Table tennis is such an interesting game that people all over the world play it.乒乓球是一項很有趣的運動，以致全世界的人都參加這項運動。

②such（+adj.）+複數可數名詞+that從句。如：

They are such interesting books that I want to read them once more.這些書非常有趣，我想再讀一遍。

It was such bad weather that I had to stay at home.天氣太壞，以致我不得不呆在家裡。

（2）so是副詞，與形容詞或副詞連用，其結構是：so+adj.（adv.）+that從句。如：

He ran so fast that I couldn’t catch up with him.他跑得那麼快，我趕不上他。

I am so sleepy that I can hardly keep my eyes open.我太瞌睡了，眼睛幾乎睜不開了。

注意：①當名詞前面有many，much，few，little等表示數量多少的限定詞時，應該用so，而不能用such。如：

There were so many people in the street watching the fire that firefighters could not get close to the building.街上圍觀大火的人太多了，消防隊員無法靠近大樓。

②當單數名詞前有形容詞時，既可用so，也可用such，但不定冠詞的位置卻有所不同。如： This is such an important meeting that you should attend it.（=This is so important a meeting that you should attend it.）這是一次很重要的會議，你一定要參加。 後面不加，一般在前面加，詳細分析如下：so that引導目的狀語從句時，表示“以便；為了”，從句中常使用can /could /may /might /will /would /should等情態動詞或助動詞；引導結果狀語從句時，從句中一般不用can和may等詞，在so that前可以用逗號，意思是“因此，所以，以致”。如：

He got up very early so that he could catch the train．他起得很早以便能趕上火車。（目的狀語從句）

He raised his voice，so that everyone heard him．他提高了聲音，結果大家都聽見了。（結果狀語從句）

（3）so．．．that意為“如此……以致”，只能引導結果狀語從句，意為“如此……以致於”，其中so後面跟形容詞、副詞或由few，little，a little，many，much修飾的名詞。例如：

He ran so quickly that I couldn"t catch up with him．他跑得太快，我趕不上他。

The box costs so little that I can afford it.這個箱子很便宜，我買得起。
