一、動副短語可以分開。動副短語由動詞加副詞構成，有的相當於一個及物動詞，有被動語態，可以支配一個賓語，如果賓語是人稱代詞，代詞放在動詞和副詞之間，如果賓語為名詞或不定代詞，則可以放在短語動詞的後面，也可以放在中間。如：He picked the book up. He picked it up.又如：work out 制定出win over 說服wipe out 消滅turn out 趕出來，結果是turn on 開啟有的相當於一個不及物動詞，不能支配任何賓語，無被動語態。The plane took off despite the fog.The war broke out in 1980 and lasted eight years.又如：break down 出故障come to 甦醒drop out 退出give in 讓步knock off 停工 二、動副介短語不可分開。動副介短語由動詞加副詞加介係詞構成，支配賓語的時候賓語放在介係詞後面，不可分開，如：Please keep out of her affairs.The old law must be done away with.The old should keep up with the times.又如：catch up with 趕上come down with 患date back to 追溯到get along with 與……相處go on with 繼續。
