這樣用的another表泛指。比較：
Give me another (one). 另外給我一個。（表泛指）
Give me the other (one). 給我另外那個。（表特指）
2. 在通常情況下，another 後不能接複數名詞或不可數名詞，但是若複數名詞之前有 few 或數詞修飾，或不可數名詞之前有 piece of 之類的單位詞時等，則可以與 another 連用。如：
I could go on for another two hours. 我再講兩個小時都講不完。
I need another few days before l can make up my mind. 我還需幾天才能決定。
3. one 有時可與 another 對照使用。如：
One (boy) wanted to read, and another wanted to watch TV. 一個（男孩）想看書，另一個則想看電視。
One day he wanted his lunch early, another day he wanted it late. 他一天要早點吃午飯，另一天又要晚點吃午飯。

5. one another 與 each other：兩者均表示“彼此”“互相”，原認為 one another 用於三者或三者以上，each other 用於兩者，但在現代英語中，兩者常可換用。值得注意的是，“互相”一詞，在中文裡給人的感覺好像是副詞，但其實它們是代詞，因此它們在句不用作狀語，若用於不及物動詞之後時，要考慮新增適合的介詞。如：
We don’t always agree with one another [each other]. 我們的意見並不總是一致的。
They spoke to one another [each other] in a very friendly manner. 他們態度十分和善地彼此交談。
另外，若語義需要，它們還可用於所有格。如：
They often stay in one another’s [each other’s] house. 他們常常在彼此的家裡住。
Those two are always copying each other’s [one another’s] homework. 那兩個人總是互相抄襲作業。
