理查德·馬克斯（Richard Marx）第一次巡迴演出時，愛妻辛西婭·羅德斯去拍片已3個月，由於簽證問題，理查德無法前去探望辛西婭，他感到非常鬱悶。

這時，他的朋友說：“你鬱悶的時候會寫出最好的歌曲。”於是，理查德坐在鋼琴旁，在一種強烈的衝動下，只用了20分鐘就寫完了《此情可待》創作，這首歌成為廣為流傳的經典情歌。在海灣戰爭期間，這首歌在美國成了親朋分別時相互告慰、互祝平安的歌曲。
