我喜歡哲理詩，所以最愛Robert Frost的詩歌，其中流傳最廣的是《The Road Not Taken》，幾乎所有中文譯為《未選擇的路》，但我反覆推敲後還是譯成《錯過的路》，大家讀下中英版，感受下就能明白我為什麼堅持譯成《錯過的路》，而不是《未選擇的路》 。
《THE ROAD NOT TAKEN》
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

這是一首很容易引起歧義的人生哲理詩。詩人把樹林裡的岔路比作人生總要面對的各種選擇，向左或向右或許並無不同，但遺憾的是無論如何選擇，總會錯過另一個，因為人生沒有回頭路。於是回首過往的選擇，與其感傷曾今的錯失，不如珍惜懷念走過的風景。
詩人的另一首詩《雪夜林邊駐足》同樣講人生如何抉擇，只不過這次抉擇換成了：放棄還是堅持。可以與上面這首比對照著讀。

Whose woods these are I think I know.
His house is in the village though;
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his woods fill up with snow.
My little horse must think it queer
To stop without a farmhouse near
Between the woods and frozen lake
The darkest evening of the year.
He gives his harness bells a shake
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound"s the sweep
Of easy wind and downy flake.

樹林可愛，幽暗又深密。
但諾言須守怎能兒戲，
想要歇息還需行萬里，

詩共四段，格律嚴謹，為AABA，BBCB，CCDC，DDDD，即第一段1，2，4壓know韻，第三句here為第二段1，2，4韻。難人可貴的是押韻同時能保持詩句的自然流暢。 同時這首詩飽含深意：詩人在旅途中有意走進一片偏僻，幽靜的樹林，是否期待就此歇腳，讓紛飛的雪掩蓋自己？可是想到未兌現的承諾，未盡的責任，告訴自己現在不能停歇，還得繼續上路。
這個旅程或許指生命的旅程，紅塵中浮沉幾十載，或許會感到疲憊，或許是失望，繼而萌生退意，像陶淵明歸隱田園“採菊東籬下”，但心中卻放不下曾有的抱負、責任。 想起辛棄疾《鷓鴣天》裡“卻將萬字平戎策，換得東家種樹書”，似乎要就此放棄收復山河的志向，但又在《永遇樂》裡最後一句問道“憑誰問，廉頗老矣，尚能飯否？”
