1、一般過去式

常見時間狀語標誌：yesterday（昨天）、the day before yesterday（前天）、last night（昨天晚上） / week （周）/ month（月）、時間詞 + ago (如three days ago), in / on + 過去的時間詞 (如in 2010)、 just now、at that time、in those days、one day、 long long time ago、once upon a time等。

例如：Two years ago she bought an expensive mountain bike.

兩年前，她買了一輛昂貴的山地腳踏車。

Last year, however, nearly twenty billion tons of rice was produced.

然而，去年的稻穀產量接近200億噸。

2、過去進行時

常見時間狀語標誌：(just) then, at that time, yesterday afternoon, the whole morning, all day yesterday, from 9 to 10 last evening / night, those days等。

例如：May I ask what you were doing in my restaurant yesterday?

請問你昨天到我的餐館裡來幹什麼？

3、過去完成時

常見時間狀語標誌：before, by the end of last term / week / month / year 等。

例如：Most of the guests had left when he arrived at the party.

當他到達晚會現場時，大多數客人已經離開
