中文語法裡是隻有（的）這一個字來表現所屬關係。但是英文裡就有不同的形式和單詞來表現了。比方說my friend"s house. 我的朋友的房子。my friend 也可以改成a friend of my.這裡的of代表的。

“的”在漢語裡，和相應的英語裡，都是虛詞。

1 表示有生命力的所有關係 用"s 或者 s"來表達

e.g. Jack"s lantern 傑克的燈籠

e.g. the teachers" office 老師們的辦公室

2 表示無生命力的所有關係 用of來表達

e.g. the color of the wind 風的顏色

e.g. the windows of the house 房子的窗戶

3 極特殊情況，表示所有關係，用to 來表達，僅限於幾種情況

e.g. the key to the bike 腳踏車的鑰匙

e.g. the answers to the questions 問題的答案
