複數

用單數，強調耳朵聽的功能；用複數，強調它是作為人體的器官：

Some sounds cannot be detected by human ears. 有些聲音是人的耳朵無法察覺到的。

Some sounds cannot be detected by the human ear. 有些聲音是人的耳朵無法察覺到的。

▲不過有一點需要說明：雖然我們每個人都有兩個耳朵，但一些著重“聽”而不著重在耳朵本身那東西時，通常是要用單數形式的。如：

I have no ear for music. 我對音樂外行。

Peter learned to play piano by ear. 彼得是憑聽覺(而不是靠樂譜)學會彈琴的。

The counsellor provided a sympathetic ear for students with problems. 學生輔導員願意傾聽遇到問題的學生的心聲。
