during本身意思是在……期間。1.during前是一般過去時，後面可以是名詞，也可以是一般過去時態的句子；2.during前為過去進行時，後為一般過去時態；3.during前為一般將來時，後為一般將來時；4.during前一般現在時，後也是一般現在時。

during和in的區別

1.during和in都表示某事的發生貫穿於某段時間中，如：

We'll be on holiday during/in August.我們的假期在8月。

I woke up during/in the night.我在晚上醒來。

2.當強調整個時間階段，我們一般用during。如：

The shop's closed during the whole of August.（NOT...in the whole of August.)商店在整個8月都關門。

3.during表示“事件從開始到結束的整個延續性”，如：

He had some strange experiences during his military service.(NOT...in his military service.)在服兵役期間，他有一些奇怪的經歷。

I’ll try to phone you during the meeting.(NOT...in the meeting.)在會議期間，我將會打電話給你。

4.in表示“某一行為發生在一段時間中的某一點時間”，如：

I learned a lot during my stay in the countryside.我呆在農村的那段日子裡學了很多東西。

但在使用時還有以下幾點要注意：

(1)比較而言，during更強調時間的延續，in只是指一般性的某一時間。因此若表示狀態或習慣性動作，多用during，否則以用in為常見.如：

Many people suffered hardship during the war.許多人在戰爭期間受苦遭難。

(2)在stay visit meal等表示行為要持續一段時間的名詞之前，只能用during而不能用in.如：

The phone rang during the meal.吃飯時電話鈴響了。

(3)與季節名詞連用，in表泛指，during表特指。如：

In summer we often camp in the forest.夏天我們常在森林裡露營.（泛指）

They have fostered over 60 children during the past ten years. 

在過去十年間，他們撫育了60多個兒童。

During the past few years the university has staggered the summer holiday periodsfor students. 

在過去幾年裡該大學已經把學生的暑假時間錯開了。

Records show that only two have collapsed during the past 1400 years. 

記錄顯示，在過去的1400年裡，只有兩座坍塌。

But during the past decade declining rainfall has allowed him to plant highly profitable crops.
