在名詞性從句中,主語從句,表語從句,同位語從句都不能使用if.

在賓語從句中,通常情況下,whether和if可以換用,不存在只能用if而不能用whether的情況.在名詞性從句中,只存在只能用whether而不能用if的情況

一. 只用 whether 的情況：

1.引導主語從句，表語從句，同位語從句時的 ‘’ 是否‘’ ，只能用 whether，不能 if ，如：

a. 主語從句：Whether we will go there is not clear.（句首的主語部分的引導詞 whether 不能換成 if）

但，如果不在句首，whether 可換成 if ，如：It is not clear whether/ if we will go there.

b.表語從句：The question is whether we will go there.（表語部分的引導詞 whether 不能換成 if）

c.同位語從句：We have no idea whether we will go there.（同位語部分的引導詞 whether 不能換成 if）

. ‘’是否‘’ 從句做介詞賓語時，只用 whether ，不用 if，

如：

We are discussing the plan on whether we will go there.（介詞後的引導詞whether 不能換成 if）

3. 引導詞 whether 後面可接不定式，但， if不能，

如：

He haven't decided whether to go there this week

4.discuss 或 decide 等動詞後，通常只跟 whether 引導的從句，而不跟 if 引導的賓語從句，

如：

We haven't decided whether we will go there this weekend.

二.只用 if 的情況：依據其語境語意，表示如果的前提 時，如：

Let me know if you are coming.（如果你要來，就告知我一聲，即，想好要來，就告訴我，否則，不做聲）
