前用介詞on，例如：

1.I like to be on my own sometimes.有時候我喜歡一個人待著。

2.I'd rather meet him here on my own home ground.我寧願在我自己的地盤上見他。

3.I want to finish this on my own.我想獨自完成這項工作。

4.Why didn't you ask for help, rather than trying to do it on your own?你幹嗎非得自己幹，而不請人幫忙？

own是形容詞 .自己的，特有的。常和名詞所有格或形容詞性物主代詞one’s (my / our / your / his / her / its / their)一起使用，以加強語氣。

使用own時應注意下面幾點：

1、如果被脩飾的名詞前沒有a, any, some, no, this, that等限定詞脩飾時，名詞所有格或形容詞性物主代詞 + own直接前置脩飾該名詞。例如：

This is not my uncle’s own house.這不是我叔叔自己的房子。

She makes all her own clothes.她所有的衣服都是她自己做的。

如果被脩飾名詞前面已經有a, any, some, no, this, that等限定詞脩飾時，名詞所有格或形容詞性物主代詞 + own就要與of構成短語一起放在該名詞後面作後置定語。例如：

She has a mind of her own.她頗有主見。

Ancient Chinese created this medical science of China’s own.古代華人創造了這樣一種中國所特有的醫學。

I have some reasons of my own for wishing to do so.我有些想這麼幹的理由。

除上面所講的own常和名詞所有格或形容詞性物主代詞一起搭配，具有形容詞性做定語的情況外，該結構還具有名詞性，可以作賓語、表語、賓語補足語
