最近一場大火牽動著全世界人民的心。

澳洲的山火,已經肆虐了4個多月。房屋被毀,居民流離失所,還有數不清的動物葬身火海。

澳洲嚴重的火情也讓很多人聯想到了去年亞馬孫雨林熊熊燃燒的大火。

然而,最近卻有人把亞馬孫發生大火“甩鍋”給了中國。

1月7日,《紐約時報》發表了一篇題為“Will China Buy Fake Meat?”(《中國人會買人造肉嗎》)的文章,報道了美國植物基人造肉公司Impossible Foods進軍中國市場一事。

文章中,Impossible Foods執行長帕特·布朗(Pat Brown)指出向中國出售人造肉是為了“保護全球環境”,甚至說 “中國人每吃一塊肉,亞馬孫雨林裡就冒出了一股煙。”

"Every time someone in China eats a piece of meat, a little puff of smoke goes up in the Amazon."

除了布朗的言論,文章還聲稱:“肉類生產是氣候變化的一個主要原因,而中國對豬肉和牛肉不斷增長的需求,加劇了對環境的破壞。”

"Meat production is a leading cause of climate change, and the growing demand for pork and beef in China has fueled much of that environmental damage."

Question:Experts have pointed out that the beef industry is one of the main factors behind the wildfire of the Amazon rain forest. As the biggest importer of Brazilian beef, what does China have to say regarding the impact and causes of fire?

Geng Shuang: You were saying there's a linkage between the fire and beef? The correlation is new to me. China has noted the fire in the Amazon in Brazil. We support the Brazilian government's efforts in fighting the fire and hope it can be put under control as soon as possible.

“人在家中坐,鍋從天上來”

《紐約時報》這篇角度“清奇”的文章讓網友們大呼“人在家中坐,鍋從天上來”。

不少網友表示強行將中國肉製品消耗量和亞馬孫火災、氣候變化和環境問題聯絡起來簡直是無稽之談。而且從數量上來看,中國的肉類消耗量並不是世界最大的。

根據經濟合作與發展組織(OCED)的資料顯示,2018年,美國才是肉消耗量最多的國家,人均消耗100.8千克肉類。

The New York Times article has caused a stir on Chinese social media, with netizens pointing out that putting China in the hot seat for the devastating forest fires in the Amazon and claiming that the country's meat appetite is "fuelling much of the environmental damage" are a bit of a stretch.

China is gobbling down more meat than before, but so is the whole word. Countries, both developing and developed, are seeing exponential rises in meat consumption owing mostly to intensive farming systems that turned meat from luxury to commodity and increasing incomes that make meat more affordable – and China is no exception.

But for all the meat the average Chinese wolfs down annually (48.9 kg, according to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development or OECD), it's still significantly less than the 100.8 kg the average American – the world's biggest meat eater – devours every year. In fact, China is not on the OECD's top 10 list of countries with the highest per capita meat consumption, which features the U.S. in the top spot, Australia ranking second, and Brazil in 6th place.

不僅如此,中國在環境保護方面的成就有目共睹。在致力於解決國內環境問題的同時,中國始終積極參與國際環境事務,為環境保護貢獻中國方案。

2019年2月,NASA的一項研究報告指出,過去的20年裡地球新增了5%的綠化面積,相當於多出了一整塊亞馬孫雨林。而這全球新増綠化,四分之一貢獻率來自於中國。

2019年9月,支付寶推出的“螞蟻森林”專案獲得聯合國最高環保榮譽——“地球衛士獎”。這也是中國綠色創新專案和環保人士連續第三年獲此獎項。

“中國人會買人造肉嗎?”

在《紐約時報》的這篇文章裡,布朗肯定了中國是巨大而有潛力的人造肉市場。

"It is an absolutely essential and extremely important market for us."

但他的這一番“中國人吃肉,亞馬孫森林冒煙”的言論讓網友直呼“他失去了中國市場!”

不過就算沒有布朗的這句話,人造肉能很快被端上中國人的餐桌嗎?

In the NYT article “Will China buy fake meat?” Brown said that China is an essential market for plant-based meat. But angry netizens said that linking China's meat consumption to the Amazon fires might not be Brown's ticket to winning Chinese people hearts.

Big plant-based meat purveyors in the U.S. have yet to gain foothold in China, and whether Chinese eaters will swap en masse steaks for their meat-free substitutes remains to be seen.

有不少消費者懷疑人造肉的健康價值:比如人造肉是經過高度加工的食物,是否可能對人體健康不利?人造肉鐵吸收率低,對於正在生長髮育的兒童等人群來說並不適宜。

除此之外,人造肉的味道也是食客們很關心的問題。

嗶哩嗶哩網站(簡稱B站)知名美國UP主郭傑瑞(Jerry Kowal)曾做過一期專門的測評視訊,他坦言“人造肉真的不好吃。”

Taste is king among eaters, and meat alternatives have yet replicate it to a T, although considerable progress in texture, appearance and mouthfeel has been done in the past few years.

還有國外的網友指出,中國有著悠久的素食文化,中國製作仿葷食品已經有數百年曆史了。

中餐仿葷食品從福斯化到高階化應有盡有——從家常菜中素雞、素火腿、素燒鵝到素食館裡的高檔素魚翅、素蟹、素河豚,不管是造型還是口感中餐仿葷食品似乎比人造肉都更勝一籌。
